Ghazal
Akha Bhagat 22
This ghazal explores the deceptive nature of perception, where an unseen essence underlies visible forms. It speaks of a pervasive, year-round experience that resides everywhere, suggesting a deep-seated illusion or reality. Through analogies like seeing leaves but not the vine, or waves but not the current, the poet highlights how the physical body is perceived while the true consciousness remains hidden.

સૌને ઘેર આવી ગઇ રહે ;
The twain enjoy throughout the year,At every home, they linger near.
The twain enjoy throughout the year, and at every home, they linger near.

Akha says, when Hari is known, dullness departs; Else, neither mind nor word can enter anywhere.
Akha states that once the divine Hari is truly known, ignorance or dullness vanishes. Otherwise, neither one's thoughts nor words can penetrate or achieve anything meaningful.

દીસે કીરણ ન દીસે ભાન;
No vine is seen, yet leaves appear, Rays are seen, yet the sun is not clear;
No vine is seen, yet leaves appear; rays are seen, yet the sun is not clear.

The flow is not seen, the wave appears to sight,So consciousness is not seen, the body shines forth bright.
Just as the flow of water is not seen, but its wave is visible; similarly, consciousness is not seen, but the body is apparent.

Akha, the one who sees duality,He who transcends it, is beyond all.

નીચ તે નોહે નીચ નિર્વાણ;
One high in status, deem not high in worth,Nor are the humble, ignoble from their birth.
Do not assume someone high in status is inherently superior, nor that a humble person is inherently inferior. True worth is determined by one's character, not social standing.
