Ghazal
'असद' हम वो जुनूँ-जौलाँ गदा-ए-बे-सर-ओ-पा हैं
This ghazal, attributed to Asad (Ghalib), delves into themes of existential detachment, the relentless passage of time, and the search for truth amidst suffering. The poet portrays himself as a frenzied wanderer, reflecting on the agony of waiting and the profound transformations brought by passion. Ultimately, he expresses a captive's silent plea for justice, hoping the oppressor confronts their own reality.

May the zest for self-adornment bar my spirit's final rest;My tomb's stone mirror now has turned engraver, self-impressed.
May the passion for self-adornment prevent the soul from detaching itself from the world. My tombstone's mirror has now become an engraver of my image.

If contentment is the goal of restless sorrow's plight,Our life is but the craving for the wine-cup's turning light.
If contentment is the aim of restless sorrow, then our life is merely the craving for the circulation of the wine-cup.
