If your heart is saddened by envy, warm yourself with the spectacle,For perhaps the narrow eye will widen with abundant viewing.
If your heart is saddened by envy, engage in observing the spectacle, so that perhaps your narrow eye may open with abundant viewing.

My craving for sin should be as boundless as my heart's desire; I'd fill but a corner of my skirt, were it water of seven seas.
My craving for sins should be as vast as my heart's desires. I would only fill a corner of my garment, even if it were the water of the seven seas.

If that cypress-statured one, with a proud and graceful walk, arrives,The palm of every garden's dust will become a dove, lamenting.
If that cypress-statured beloved, with their proud and graceful walk, were to arrive, the very dust of every garden would take the form of a dove and begin to lament.

This concurrent blooming of desert stone and flower desires,That even the thread of the path might become a sapphire sacred thread for the mountain.

I shall face the wild coquetry of love's breeze, only when My heart, like a bud, is prepared to become a whole garden.
I will only confront the wild coquetry of love's breeze when my heart, like a bud, is prepared to become an entire garden.

Instead of grain's rich bounty, a desert of dove's eggs now lies; My sole attainment is that fate from which mere dust will rise.
Instead of a bountiful grain harvest, there is an entire desert filled with dove's eggs. My sole attainment is that fate or formula from which only dust is produced.

What can perception's instrument achieve for that martyr of awareness' sting,When even the brain's fine hair in trance, Zulekha's dream does bring?
What can the instrument of perception achieve for that martyr of profound awareness's pain, when even a tiny thought in their unconscious mind brings forth a consuming dream like Zulekha's? It suggests that for one so deeply absorbed, external sight holds no sway.

My heart, a candle, was offered in vain for the spectacle of sight;May my gaze overflow with tears, and my breast be full of desire.
My heart, like a candle, was offered in vain for the spectacle of sight. May my gaze overflow with tears and my breast be full of desire.

May no cold-hearted face be seen, save the camphor lamp's light,
O God, may 'Asad's' assembly be so warmed by this sight!
May no cold-hearted face be seen, except for the camphor lamp. O God, may Asad's gathering be so vibrant and warm with spectacle.
