आलम-ए-आब-ओ-ख़ाक-ओ-बाद सिर्र-ए-अयाँ है तू कि मैं

आलम-ए-आब-ओ-ख़ाक-ओ-बाद सिर्र-ए-अयाँ है तू कि मैं
वो जो नज़र से है निहाँ उस का जहाँ है तू कि मैं
In the world of water, dust, and time, are you the secret hidden from sight, or am I? / Are you the world that exists where the eye cannot see, or am I?
Is this world of water, earth, and wind a revealed secret of yours or mine? Are you the manifestation of that hidden Creator, or am I?

वो शब-ए-दर्द-ओ-सोज़-ओ-ग़म कहते हैं ज़िंदगी जिसे
उस की सहर है तू कि मैं उस की अज़ाँ है तू कि मैं

किस की नुमूद के लिए शाम ओ सहर हैं गर्म-ए-सैर
शाना-ए-रोज़गार पर बार-ए-गिराँ है तू कि मैं
For whose fame are the evenings and mornings hot with wandering? Is the burden of your daily life heavier than mine?
For whose manifestation do day and night move so tirelessly? Is it you or am I the one who is a heavy burden on the shoulders of existence?

तू कफ़-ए-ख़ाक ओ बे-बसर मैं कफ़-ए-ख़ाक ओ ख़ुद-निगर
किश्त-ए-वजूद के लिए आब-ए-रवाँ है तू कि मैं
O dust-cup, and I, who am aimless, O dust-cup and self-observer,
Are you the flowing water, or am I, for the sake of existence?
You are a handful of sightless dust while I am a handful of self-aware dust. For the field of our existence who is the life-giving flowing water you or I?
