અપમાનિતા-અપયશવતી તું : તોય મા તે મા!
પરવશ-પરાજિત લથડતી તું : તોય મા તે મા!
Disgraced and ill-reputed are you: yet a mother is a mother!Helpless, defeated, stumbling are you: yet a mother is a mother!
Even if you are disgraced and ill-reputed, or helpless, defeated, and stumbling, a mother remains a mother regardless of her circumstances.

તુજ પરાજયની ધૂળને
ધરશું અમારે મસ્તકે :
The dust of your defeat,
We shall bear upon our heads.

ચરણો વીંધાયલ કંટકે ચૂમી લઈશું, મા!
મધરાત મારગમાં પડી.

આકાશ ઝીંકે છે ઝડી :
તું મૂર્છિતા ને આંધળી : દોરી જઈશું, મા!

તુજ ખોળલા ભરિયલ હતા,
ત્યાં લગી મીઠા લાગતા!

ખાલી પડી! -આપી ખતા ચાલ્યા ન જાશું, મા!
ચાલ્યા જનારા છો જતા-

અણસમજના શા ઓરતા!
પણ તને ઠોકર મારતા ક્યમ જવા પામે, મા!

તું તો નવલ યુદ્ધે ચડી,
આલમ બધી જોવા ખડી :

તે સમે તારી ઠેકડી કપૂતો જ કરશે, મા!
હીણાયલી-રોળાયલી તુ : તોય મા તે મા!
