कुछ इस अदा से आज वो पहलू-नशीं रहे

कुछ इस अदा से आज वो पहलू-नशीं रहे
जब तक हमारे पास रहे हम नहीं रहे

ईमान-ओ-कुफ़्र और न दुनिया-ओ-दीं रहे
ऐ इश्क़-ए-शाद-बाश कि तन्हा हमीं रहे
Neither faith nor disbelief, nor worldly life nor creed remains; Hail to you, O joyous Love, for now we alone remain!
Neither faith nor disbelief, nor worldly matters nor religion remains; O Love, rejoice, for now only we remain.

आलम जब एक हाल पे क़ाएम नहीं रहे
क्या ख़ाक ए'तिबार-ए-निगाह-ए-यक़ीं रहे
When the world itself abides not in a constant state, / What trust, then, can the eye of certainty await?
When the world itself does not remain in a constant state, how can any trust be placed in the gaze of certainty?

मेरी ज़बाँ पे शिकवा-ए-दर्द-आफ़रीं रहे
शायद मिरे हवास ठिकाने नहीं रहे
A complaint against the creator of pain lingers upon my tongue; it seems my senses are no longer sound.
My tongue keeps complaining against the creator of pain; it seems that I am no longer in my right senses.

जब तक इलाही जिस्म में जान-ए-हज़ीं रहे
नज़रें मिरी जवान रहें दिल हसीं रहे
As long as, O God, this sorrowful soul abides within my frame, / May my gaze remain youthful, and my heart keep beauty's flame.
O God, as long as this sorrowful soul remains in my body, may my eyesight stay youthful and my heart remain beautiful.

या-रब किसी के राज़-ए-मोहब्बत की ख़ैर हो
दस्त-ए-जुनूँ रहे न रहे आस्तीं रहे
O Lord, preserve the secret of someone's love; whether the hand of frenzy survives or not, may the sleeve remain intact.
O Lord, keep the secret of someone's love safe; whether the hand of madness remains or not, may the sleeve remain intact so the secret is not exposed.

ता-चंद जोश-ए-इश्क़ में दिल की हिफ़ाज़तें
मेरी बला से अब वो जुनूनी कहीं रहे
How long in love's wild frenzy must I guard this fragile heart? / For all I care, let that mad wanderer live wherever he will.
How long can I keep protecting my heart amidst the frenzy of love; for all I care, let that crazed heart now live wherever it wants.

जा और कोई ज़ब्त की दुनिया तलाश कर
ऐ इश्क़ हम तो अब तिरे क़ाबिल नहीं रहे
Go seek another realm of endurance and restraint; O Love, we are no longer worthy of you.
O love, go and search for another world of endurance and restraint, for we are no longer capable of bearing you.

मुझ को नहीं क़ुबूल दो-आलम की वुसअतें
क़िस्मत में कू-ए-यार की दो-गज़ ज़मीं रहे
I care not for the vast expanse of both the realms; let my fate hold but two yards of earth in my beloved's lane.
I do not accept the vast expanses of both worlds; I only wish that my fate grants me two yards of land in my beloved's street.

ऐ इश्क़-ए-नाला-कश तिरी ग़ैरत को क्या हुआ
है है अरक़ अरक़ वो तन-ए-नाज़नीं रहे
O wailing love, what has become of all your pride and shame? / Alas, in sweat is drenched and bathed that frail and tender frame!
O lamenting love, what has happened to your sense of honor? Alas, that delicate body of the beloved is utterly drenched in sweat.

दर्द-ओ-ग़म-ए-फ़िराक के ये सख़्त मरहले
हैराँ हूँ मैं कि फिर भी तुम इतने हसीं रहे
Through these harsh trials of parting's grief and pain, / I marvel how so beautiful you still remain.
Despite going through the harsh and painful phases of separation, I am astonished at how you have still remained so beautiful.

अल्लाह-रे चश्म-ए-यार की मोजिज़-बयानियाँ
हर इक को है गुमाँ कि मुख़ातिब हमीं रहे
Oh, the miraculous eloquence of the beloved's gaze—each one is left believing they alone were addressed!
Oh, the miraculous eloquence of the beloved's eyes, that everyone is left with the impression that they alone were being addressed.

ज़ालिम उठा तू पर्दा-ए-वहम-ओ-गुमान-ओ-फ़िक्र
क्या सामने वो मरहला-हाए-यक़ीं रहे
O cruel one, lift this veil of doubt, conjecture, and thought; let us see if the realms of certainty can still remain before our eyes.

ज़ात-ओ-सिफ़ात-ए-हुस्न का आलम नज़र में है
महदूद-ए-सज्दा क्या मिरा ज़ौक़-ए-जबीं रहे
The entire realm of Beauty's essence and attributes fills my view; / Why should the longing of my brow be bound by a mere prostration?
The entire universe of beauty's essence and attributes is before my sight, so why should the devotion of my forehead remain confined merely to a single prostration?

किस दर्द से किसी ने कहा आज बज़्म में
अच्छा ये है वो नंग-ए-मोहब्बत यहीं रहे
With what deep ache did someone sigh amid the gathering today: 'Far better that this disgrace to love remains right here, to stay.'
Today in the gathering, someone said with great anguish that it is better for that disgrace to love to remain right here.

सर-दादगान-ए-इश्क़-ओ-मोहब्बत की क्या कमी
क़ातिल की तेग़ तेज़ ख़ुदा की ज़मीं रहे
Of those who offer up their heads to love, there is no dearth; May the slayer's blade stay sharp, and vast remain God's earth.
There is no shortage of lovers ready to sacrifice their heads; may the executioner's sword remain sharp and God's earth remain vast.

इस इश्क़ की तलाफ़ी-ए-माफ़ात देखना
रोने की हसरतें हैं जब आँसू नहीं रहे
Behold how this love atones for what was lost: the yearning to weep awakens, yet no tears are left.
Look at how this love tries to compensate for what has passed; now there is a longing to weep, but no tears are left to shed.
