— Kabir
Meaning
Upon crossing the ocean of 'Rama-Nama' (the name of Rama), I have nothing to give to God. What can I take, O content-hearted one, that remains in my mind? I sacrifice myself to the Guru, who spoke of God like a little fire. He did not speak even once.
Explanation
These couplets speak profoundly about self-realization and the nature of true knowledge. The Shayar Kabir suggests that having traversed the vast ocean of 'Rama-Nama' (Rama's name), one has nothing material left to offer God. The deeper message is about the Guru: the true teacher imparts wisdom not through loud words, but through the silent, burning presence of truth. Kabir teaches us that the greatest offering is the awakened self.
