आह जिस वक़्त सर उठाती है
अर्श पर बर्छियाँ चलाती है
Oh, the time when it raises its head,
And wields spears upon the throne.
When a deep sigh of pain rises from the heart, it acts like spears striking the highest heavens.

नाज़-बरदार-ए-लब है जाँ जब से
तेरे ख़त की ख़बर को पाती है
When the charming lips, my soul, are informed of your letter's news,
Since the news of your letter arrived, my soul has come to rest upon my lips, as if it is delicately balanced there in eager anticipation.

ऐ शब-ए-हिज्र रास्त कह तुझ को
बात कुछ सुब्ह की भी आती है
Oh, the night of separation, tell me truly,
Something of the morning's talk also comes to me.
O night of separation, tell the truth; do you have any news or knowledge of the morning as well?

चश्म-ए-बद्दूर-चश्म-ए-तर ऐ 'मीर'
आँखें तूफ़ान को दिखाती है
O Mir, the eye of the bad moon, the eye of the star,
Show the storm to your eyes.
May evil eyes stay away from these tearful eyes, O Meer. These eyes are so full of tears that they are showing a storm how a real tempest looks.
