Akha Bhagat 10
In this ghazal, Akha criticizes the futile pursuit of worldly pleasures, likening it to a blind person looting a market without true gain. He asserts that worldly desires lead to endless suffering and are as impractical to satisfy as drawing water from an axe. Akha also expresses anger and condemns those who claim wisdom yet remain entangled in worldly attachments.

અખા આંધળે લુંટ્ યો બજાર
સંતગુરુનો એવો વિચાર.
Akha, the blind one looted the market; such is the Saint-Guru's insight.

જગતપ્રમોદી દાઝ ન ટળે
કુ વાડામાંથી કાઢે જળે ;
A grudge, though from a soul who brightens every shore,Will not depart, like water drawn from a dry well's core.
A grudge, even from a person who brings joy to the world, does not go away, just as water cannot be drawn from a dry well.

સમજુ ને છે સરખો ભાવ
તે ગુરુના મનમાં અભાવ;
For the wise, the feeling is alike, In the Guru's mind, no aversion can strike.
For the wise, all feelings are equal; the Guru's mind harbors no ill-will.

એમ જાણીને રીસે બળે
અખા જ્ઞાનીની નિંદા કરે.
Knowing this, they burn with wrath, Akha, and slander the wise.
Having realized this, they are consumed by anger, Akha, and proceed to slander the wise.

વિષયી જીવથી પ્રીતજ કરે
તત્વદર્શી ઉપર અભાવજ ધરે;
A worldly soul loves only worldly ties,And truth-seers, they only despise.
A worldly soul only loves those engrossed in worldly matters, and only harbors disdain for truth-seers.

ખાનપાન વિષયાદિક ભોગ
તત્વદર્શીને સર્વે રોગ;
Food, drink, and all worldly pleasures, To the truth-seer, are naught but diseases.
For the one who truly comprehends reality, food, drink, and all other worldly pleasures are perceived as nothing more than various forms of disease.
