If pure and cold water is sprinkled on sputtering oil, it flares up all at once and burns the body of the other, O Virtuous one.
This couplet uses a vivid image to share a wise lesson. Imagine hot, sizzling oil; if you try to cool it down by sprinkling pure, cold water on it, what happens? Instead of calming, it flares up violently, spitting and burning anyone nearby. The couplet warns us that sometimes, even with good intentions, or using something seemingly harmless, if applied to a volatile or already heated situation, it can make things much worse. It highlights the importance of understanding the situation and using the right approach, lest our efforts accidentally cause more harm than good, like water on hot oil. Be mindful of your actions and their potential, unintended consequences.
