तेरे नफ़स से हुई आतिश-ए-गुल तेज़-तर
मुर्ग़-ए-चमन है यही तेरी नवा का सिला
— Allama Iqbal
Meaning
From your breath, a fire of roses has flared, so bright; this garden bird is merely the reward for your grace.
Explanation
This couplet beautifully captures the overwhelming power of the beloved's presence. The poet suggests that the mere breath (Nafas) of the beloved has ignited a fire, a passion so intense that it burns everything. And what is this caged bird (Murg-e-chaman) we receive? It is nothing but a small token, a meager reward, compared to the devastating beauty of that initial flame! It speaks of profound, consuming love.
