શરીરે ત્યાગની કફની, ચડાવી ત્યાં કજા કેવી? ર

પીવો પ્યાલા ભરી પાવો, કરીને જ્ઞાનનો કાવો,

કદી મખમલ તણી શૈય્યા, કદી ખુલ્લી ભૂમિ મૈયા,
કદી વહેતી મૂકી નૈયા, તરંગોની મજા લેવી. પ
At times on velvet soft I lie, at times on open earth I rest.At times I let my boat drift by, to revel in the waves' behest.
Sometimes one rests on a velvet bed, sometimes on the open ground. Sometimes one lets the boat drift freely, enjoying the waves as they come.

કદી ખાવા મળે લાડુ, કદી ખાવા પડે ઝાડુ,
રગશિયું દેહનું ગાડું, ઉપર ભગવી ધજા કેવી? ૬
Sometimes laddoos to eat, sometimes one must sweep the dust,This dragging cart, the body, how can it fly a saffron flag?

કદી છે શાલ દુશાલા, કદી લંગોટ ને માલા,
કદી હો ઝેરના પ્યાલા, મળે તેવી મજા લેવી. ૭
At times a shawl, at times rich dress,At times a loincloth, beads of grace,At times a cup of poison's stress,Enjoy whatever life doth place.
Sometimes there are rich shawls and robes, sometimes a loincloth and rosary; sometimes there are cups of poison. One should enjoy whatever comes their way.

ધર્યા છે કેશરી જામા, કર્યાં કાષાયનાં કપડાં,
તજી સંસારના ભામા, કજામાંથી મજા લેવી. ૮
Donned robes of saffron hue, wore ochre garments, Forsaking worldly pleasures, to find joy in torments.

ભર્યા છે જ્ઞાનધન ભાથાં, ઝુકાવે શાહ પણ માથાં,
જગતનો ગમ સદા ખાતાં, ગમીને જ્યાં રજા દેવી. ૯
Their quivers brim with knowledge, a treasure vast,Before them, even kings their proud heads cast.The world's deep sorrows, they forever taste,From where, with peace, one must depart at last.
Their quivers are full of the wealth of knowledge, before which even kings bow their heads. Always tasting the world's sorrows, one must depart from here with acceptance.

ખુશી આફત મૂકી સાથે, ધખાવી હોળીઓ હાથે,
બીજાના દુઃખની માથે, ખુશીથી જ્યાં સજા લેવી. ૧૦

થયાં જ્યાં એક ઈશ્વરથી, પછી શી ગાંઠ ઘરઘરથી,
જગાવ્યે પ્રેમ પરવરથી, શલાકા સ્નેહની સેવી. ૧૩
