Bas Etli Samaj Mane Parwardigar De

બસ એટલી સમજ મને પરવરદિગાર દે,
સુખ જ્યારે જ્યાં મળે ત્યાં બધાના વિચાર દે.
Just grant me this much wisdom, O my Lord,
When and where joy is found, let all be adored.
O Lord, grant me just this much wisdom: that whenever and wherever happiness is found, I should consider everyone.

માની લીધું કે પ્રેમની કોઇ દવા નથી,
જીવનના દર્દની તો કોઈ સારવાર દે.
I've accepted that for love there is no cure,But for life's pain, some remedy procure.
The speaker acknowledges that there is no cure for love, but pleads for some treatment or remedy for the pain of life.

ચાહ્યું બીજું બધું તે ખુદાએ મને દીધું,
એ શું કે તારા માટે ફક્ત ઇન્તિઝાર દે.
All other desires, God did grant to me,But for you alone, why just longing gave He?
All other desires that I had, God granted them to me. Why is it that for you alone, He gave only waiting?

આવીને આંગળીમાં ટકોરા રહી ગયા,
સંકોચ આટલો ન કોઈ બંધ દ્વાર દે.
The knocks on my finger remained, unheard at the door,May no closed door show such hesitation evermore.
The attempt to knock remained on the finger, meaning the speaker's hesitation prevented the knock from reaching the door. The poet wishes that no closed door or person behind it should ever show such reluctance or shyness to open up.

પીઠામાં મારું માન સતત હાજરીથી છે,
મસ્જિદમાં રોજ જાઉં તો કોણ આવકાર દે!
My status in the tavern is from being constantly there, If to the mosque I went each day, who would a welcome prepare?
My status in the tavern is due to my constant presence there. If I were to go to the mosque daily, who would offer me a welcome?

નવરાશ છે હવે જરા સરખામણી કરું,
કેવો હતો અસલ હું, મને એ ચિતાર દે.

તે બાદ માંગ મારી બધીયે સ્વતંત્રતા,
પહેલાં જરાક તારી ઉપર ઇખ્તિયાર દે.
Thereafter, claim all my freedom from me,I pray,But first, grant me some small dominion over you today.

આ નાનાં નાનાં દર્દ તો થાતાં નથી સહન,
દે એક મહાન દર્દ અને પારાવાર દે.
These petty pains, I cannot bear;Grant me one great sorrow, beyond all compare.

સૌ પથ્થરોના બોજ તો ઊંચકી લીધાં અમે,
અમને નમાવવા હો તો ફૂલોનો ભાર દે.

દુનિયામાં કંઈકનો હું કરજદાર છું ‘મરીઝ’,
ચૂકવું બધાનું દેણ જો અલ્લાહ ઉધાર દે.
In this world, I owe many a debt, 'Marīz',I'd repay all, if Allah would grant me a loan.
Marīz states that he owes many debts in this world. He wishes to repay everyone, provided Allah grants him the means to do so.
