From the Ka'ba, we were distant from the desert; we have come again, friends, from the grace of God.
Literally, the couplet means: We were in the Ka'ba, distant from the desert; and friends, we have returned again, by the grace of God.

Like a picture, we remain silent now,
For something has been taken from the sorrowful stream.
Like a picture, we remain silent, because something has been taken from the stream of sorrow.

When lightning flashes across the garden's expanse,
It plays with my little nest of dwelling.
When lightning flashes across the garden's expanse, it plays with my small nest of dwelling.

What beauty is there in her face, O little imitator, do not copy it;
Do not speak, O cruel one, for the scent comes from there.

The green-faced garden has seen all of its own; / What appeal does it hold for that unfaithful youth?
The green-faced garden has seen all of its own beauty; what appeal does it hold for that unfaithful youth?

The day that many of them, who are slack and sleepy, washed their hands, on that very day I sacrificed my life.
The day that many of them, who are slack and sleepy, washed their hands, on that very day I sacrificed my life.

In silence alone, we have seen the true benefit,
For how could the heart's condition be told by the tongue?
We have now seen the true benefit in silence, because the condition of the heart cannot be fully expressed by the tongue.

Oh Meer, in every tone, your moodiness is so much,
It's a quarrel, a conflict, between the earth and the sky.
O Shayar Meer, your moodiness in every tone is so great, it seems like a conflict between the earth and the sky.
