From the spinning wheel's passing, the stream of sorrow flows,
May the house of this heart's desire fall to ruin and decay.
From the passing of the spinning wheel, the stream of sorrow flows; may the house of this heart's desire fall to ruin.

A tremor is in my eyes, I cannot look that way,
Oh, I am dying from the mere gaze of your glance.
There is a tremor in my eyes; I cannot look in that direction. I am dying merely from the intensity of your gaze.

In every step, the grave seems to lie in wait,
I am a corpse, but I walk the path to your gate.
In every step, the grave seems to be buried, but I am a corpse walking the path to your home.

To strike with the sword is a mere game to you, O friend,
But the life of an innocent soul cannot just depart.

Do not ask about the condition of that face, stained with disgrace, sorrow, and tears, and scarred with brokenness.
Do not ask about the condition of that face, stained with disgrace, sorrow, tears, and scarred with brokenness.

From the cruel earth, I leave, carrying my empty hands,
In the depths of sorrow, whose love will guide my path?
I am leaving this cruel earth, carrying my empty hands, and in this deep sorrow, whose love will guide my path?

Oh, I will not bring the crown of the king to your head,
I have the turban of Namad, the devoted fakir.
Oh, I will not bring the king's crown to your head; I have the turban of Namad, the devoted fakir.

In every fold of the heart, I saw the presence of Sa'd,
When I viewed the charming splendor of your Sa'd-gah.
In every fold of the heart, I perceived the presence of Sa'd, upon seeing the charming splendor of your Sa'd-gah.

Oh, 'Mir', you will not live until you are ill,
For the sound of your sighs will not let me sleep.
Oh, 'Mir', you will not live until you are ill, for the sound of your sighs will not let me sleep.
