સલામ રે દિલદાર, યારની કબૂલ કરજે;
O Beloved, accept this greeting from your friend.
O Beloved, accept this greeting from your friend.

ઘણા ઘણા લઈ ઘાવ, તાવથી ખૂબ તવાયાં;
Harbor no concern, grasp the essence, hold it in your soul.Having borne many deep wounds, by fever greatly took their toll.
Do not worry; understand the essence and keep it in your heart. Many have suffered numerous wounds and been greatly tormented by fever.

સરખે સરખી જોડ, કોડના બંને માર્યાં;
No longing for worldly pleasures, when the boat is filled with water.A perfectly matched pair, both their cherished hopes undone.
No longing for worldly pleasures, when the boat is filled with water. A perfectly matched pair, both their cherished hopes undone.

સખી પરસ્પર બોજ, રોજ સંગાતે રમતાં;
The bond was broken, in the rivalry both lost.My friend, a mutual burden, daily playing together.
The bond was broken, both lost in the rivalry. Friend, they were a mutual burden, playing together daily.

એક અંગીનાં અંગ, નંગ કુંદન બન્યો છે;
The tank has emptied out, what joy in feasting at the head?A part of that beloved form, the gem has turned to pure gold.
The tank has emptied out, so what joy is there in feasting at the head? Meanwhile, a part of that beloved form, the gem, has transformed into pure gold.

ઝૂરે તું કહાં પડી દૂર, ઝૂરતો હું અહીં રોજે;
Our togetherness did not suit, the harmony is broken.Where do you pine, fallen far? I pine here every day.
Our togetherness did not suit, the harmony is broken. Where do you pine, fallen far? I pine here every day.

પરસ્પરે છે પ્રીત, રીત રાખી છે સારી;
The radiance has departed, the heart bursts with swelling pain;Mutual is their love, a good tradition they sustain.
The radiance has departed, the heart bursts with swelling pain. Their love is mutual, and they sustain a good tradition.

મળવાની શી વાત, રાતની રાહ બહુ પાજી;
Truly, always sorrowful, with heavy worries in the heart.What talk is there of meeting? The wait for night is very cruel.
One is truly always sorrowful, with a heart heavy with worries. How can there be talk of meeting when the wait for night is so cruel?

Enduring kicks and blows, the self suffers greatly.What good will come of crying thus?
After enduring kicks and blows, one's self suffers greatly. What good will come from crying in this manner?

લવીએ પ્યારૂં નામ, રામનું નામ ન લઇએ;
Still passion burns, eight worldly jams spin 'round the head.We utter cherished names, but Rama's name is left unsaid.
Still, desires burn within, and the eight worldly attachments constantly occupy the mind. We utter many cherished names, but the name of Rama (God) remains unsaid.

પ્રેમતણી ભલી નાવ, આવજાવો કરી તેથી;
How can we endure the cups of love's intoxication, kept so distantly?The good boat of love, let us make journeys upon it, therefore.
How can we endure the cups of love's intoxication when kept so far away? Therefore, let us make journeys upon the good boat of love.

ચાલ્યું થોડીવાર, માર વિધવિધ બહુ ખાધો;
A great delight was gained, O King, it could not be held.It ran for but a short while, then various blows it bore.
A great delight was gained, O King, but it could not be sustained. It lasted only a short while, then endured many different kinds of blows.

જીભે રહેલો સ્વાદ, આદ ગળકો જે લાગ્યો;
They did not flinch at all, love bound them tighter still.The taste upon the tongue, like the first fresh gulp to fill.
They did not flinch or retreat at all; instead, love bound them even more tightly. The taste that remained on the tongue felt like the very first, delightful gulp.
14
મળ્યો ન માગ્યો તેહ, કેહ શું બાકી રાખી;
We recall how much, from a mere sound, was sought. What was desired was not received; for words, we have naught.
We remember how much was sought from a mere sound. What was desired was not received; what more is left to say?
15
હવે રહ્યું છે એ જ, સ્હેજ જો છૂટવું મોતે;
That which is not in fate, how can it last its course?Now only this remains, a slight release through death.
That which is not in fate, how can it last its course? Now only this remains, a slight release through death.

If the supreme consciousness is light, that light itself will be bliss.
