Large trunks are formed and supported by many aerial roots. From these aerial roots, many large branches emerge.
This couplet beautifully describes the expansive growth of a banyan tree. It paints a picture of a magnificent tree that establishes a strong, large trunk. From this powerful base, numerous aerial roots, known as 'vadavai', descend towards the ground. What's remarkable is that these very aerial roots, once they anchor themselves, mature and thicken, giving rise to new, large branches. This continuous process of roots becoming trunks and sprouting new branches allows the banyan to spread far and wide, creating a vast, interconnected canopy, almost like a mini-forest in itself. It’s a wonderful depiction of nature's endless cycle of growth and renewal.
