Ghazal
Akha Bhagat 24
This ghazal by Akho Bhagat explores how worldly illusions (Maya) obscure truth and lead to a separation from the self, likening purity to water lost in mud. It highlights Maya's deceptive nature, preventing the perception of ultimate reality. The poet asserts the supreme value of spiritual wisdom (Brahma-jnana) as the path to transcend these bonds.

ભૂતભવિષ્ય ને અજપાજપ

Past and future, and the silent chant,
If Akho is not, what foundation can it grant?
This couplet questions what foundation past, future, and silent chanting (Ajapajap) have if 'Akho' (referring to the saint-poet Akho or a concept of truth) is not present. It suggests that without this core understanding, everything lacks a true basis.
