आमद-ए-सैलाब-ए-तूफ़ान-ए-सदा-ए-आब है

आमद-ए-सैलाब-ए-तूफ़ान-ए-सदा-ए-आब है
नक़्श-ए-पा जो कान में रखता है उँगली जादा से
The coming of a flood, a tempest of water's sound is here,Lest footprints on the path should hold a finger to their ear.
It is the arrival of a stormy flood of the sound of water; footprints that put their finger in their ear from the path.

बज़्म-ए-मय वहशत-कदा है किस की चश्म-ए-मस्त का
शीशे में नब्ज़-ए-परी पिन्हाँ है मौज-ए-बादा से
Whose intoxicating glance makes the wine-feast a wilderness, a mad domain? The fairy's pulse, within the glass, by wine's wave concealed, remains.
The wine gathering is a place of terror (or wilderness) of whose intoxicated eye? In the glass, the pulse of a fairy is hidden by the waves of wine.

देखता हूँ वहशत-ए-शौक़-ए-ख़रोश-आमादा से
फ़ाल-ए-रुस्वाई सरिश्क-ए-सर-ब-सहरा-दादा से
From the wild frenzy of a passion's tumultuous roar,
I read disgrace in tears spilled on the desert's floor.
I see the madness of a passion ready for an uproar, the omen of disgrace from tears poured into the wilderness.

दाम गर सब्ज़े में पिन्हाँ कीजिए ताऊस हो
जोश-ए-नैरंग-ए-बहार अर्ज़-ए-सहरा-दादा से
Hide but a snare in grass, a peacock bright it grows, By spring's fantastic charm, from desert's wide-spread shows.
If you hide wealth (or value) in the greenery, it becomes a peacock, the fervor of spring's wonder comes from the expanse granted by the desert.

ख़ेमा-ए-लैला सियाह ओ ख़ाना-ए-मजनूँ ख़राब
जोश-ए-वीरानी है इश्क़-ए-दाग़-ए-बैरूं-दादा से
Laila's tent is dark, Majnun's home a ruin stark,Such fervent desolation, from love's visible mark.
Laila's tent is dark and Majnun's house is ruined. This fervor of desolation is from the love of the externally bestowed wound.

बज़्म-ए-हस्ती वो तमाशा है कि जिस को हम 'असद'
देखते हैं चश्म-ए-अज़-ख़्वाब-ए-अदम-नकुशादा से
This world's grand stage, 'Asad', a show we see,With eyes still sealed from non-existence's sleep.
This assembly of existence is such a spectacle, 'Asad', which we see with an eye not yet opened from the sleep of non-existence (death).
