Oh, my lamp burns dimly.Today a guest comes home.
My lamp is burning dimly, and today a guest is coming home.

પલ પલ પડઘા પડે;
Echoes fall, moment by moment; The whole city sleeps, O my Lord!
Echoes resound continuously, yet the entire city is asleep, O my Lord!

Who welcomes you? - A lamp.Your chariot thunders in the sky:
Who will welcome you? A lamp. Your chariot is thundering in the sky.

ધરતી ધબક્યા કરે;
The earth keeps throbbing;O stranger! Where shall we offer you rest?
The earth keeps throbbing; O stranger, where shall we offer you rest?

Tears from eyes do stream, the lamp's light low does gleam.
'At fall of evening, love, I'll join your dream!'
Tears are flowing from the eyes, and the lamp's light is dim. The speaker says, 'I am coming when evening falls, my beloved friend.'

એવું કહીને ગયો;
Having said so, he departed;Today, after ages have passed, my dear!
Having said so, he departed; today, after an epoch has passed, my dear!

સાંજ ગઈ, રજની ગઈ ગુજરી;
Your footsteps turn back. -The lamp.Evening passed, night too passed by;
The evening has passed, and the night has also gone by.

હાય, પ્રભાત હવે;
Alas, now it is morning; Where's the chariot, where the guest, where the worship?
Alas, now it is morning; Where's the chariot, where the guest, where the worship?

In sleep, dreams gently flow. The lamp burns dim, its light low.
In sleep, dreams gently flow. The lamp burns dim, its light low.
