From the moment you arrived in my heart, my whole body burned; / A spark like this descended, and it burned my very garments.
From the moment you reached my heart, my entire body burned; / A spark descended that burned my very clothes.

The mere showing of a flaw is the 'sarakashi' in this gathering,
If possible, let the candle burn the vein of the neck.
The mere showing of a flaw is the 'sarakashi' in this gathering; I wish the candle's flame could burn the vein of my neck.

When the black-rimmed spectacles are protected from that fire's heat, when someone burns the body and mind like I have done.

The luster of tears dries from the eyes, for the lamp goes out when all the oil is consumed.
The luster of tears fades away, just as a lamp goes out when all the oil is consumed.

This sorrow is not a familiar tale, it is something new, / It has taken hold of me so deeply that my whole being has burned.
This sorrow is not a familiar tale, it is something new; it has taken hold of me so deeply that my whole being has burned.

In my heart, a fire has ignited, though it has never flared; if it flares, 'Mir', it will burn a pile of my bones as fuel.
