Ghazal
This ghazal, "The Devotee of Love," profoundly asserts the supreme and all-encompassing nature of divine love (Ishq). It argues that without love, God, the world, and all creation are meaningless, viewing the entire universe as a manifestation of love's light. The poet encourages complete surrender to this ultimate love, questioning any perceived distinction between God, the beloved, and love itself.

If Ishq exists not, what then is God? The world, though crafted, what does it avail?If Ishq exists not, what then is the world? What can God Himself do but fail?
If divine love (Ishq) does not exist, what is God, and what purpose does the created world serve? Without Ishq, the world is nothing, and even God Himself is rendered powerless.

Behold, this workshop of Love, examine it well, so deep,This play and its player, one light of Love they keep.
Behold this workshop of Love, examine it very carefully. This play and its player are both a single light of Love.

If I fear this, where shall I find solace? Whom shall I call my God?When all are helpless, who then can offer a helping hand?
If I fear this, where will I find peace, and whom shall I call my God? When everyone is helpless, who will then be able to offer a helping hand to anyone?

રે! ઈશ્કનું છોડી કદમ માગું ખુદા, માગું સનમ;
Oh! Forsaking love's path, I beg for God, I beg for the beloved;What is God? What is the beloved? This very query is the malady.
The speaker, abandoning the path of love, seeks both God and the beloved. However, the fundamental question of 'what is God and what is the beloved?' itself constitutes their core affliction.

ક્યાં યે હશે જો કો ખુદા તો ઈશ્કનો બન્દો હશે;
If there exists a God, He will be Love's devotee; If He departs from Love, He will be defeated by Love.
If there exists a God, He will be Love's devotee; If He departs from Love, He will be defeated by Love.

If God exists, then let him be; what concern is he to us?But do not be greater than love, for love is my very crown.
If God exists, let him be; what concern is he to us? However, do not be greater than love, for love itself is my crown.

Upon whose heart My love's mark is borne, smeared with dust,Who can prevent their entry to Paradise, by whom they're blessed?
Who can prevent entry to Paradise for the one whose heart bears the mark of My love, even if it is smeared with dust?

If anyone should try to stop us, or question our way,With love's mere breath, a hundred thousand forts will give way.
If anyone attempts to stop or question us, then with just a breath of love, our hundreds of thousands of forts will crumble. This conveys that the power of love is immense, capable of breaking down any formidable barrier.

છું સખ્ત ઝખમી મસ્ત દારૂ પી બન્યો બિમાર છું;
I am severely wounded, intoxicated by wine, and have become ill;But who else besides love has the power to conquer me?
I am severely wounded and have become ill from drinking intoxicating wine; but who else besides love can conquer me?

Oh! Atheists, all come, bring your daggers near,But try to draw this blood, your killer turns to water, clear.
Oh atheists, come all and bring your daggers. But try to shed this blood, and your very instrument of death will turn to water, rendering it powerless.

જે ઈશ્કનો બન્દો ઠર્યો તે છે ખુદાઈનો ખુદા;
He who became a devotee of divine love, is himself a God of divinity; Oh! What is God? What are people? What can anyone do to him?
One who truly devotes oneself to divine love becomes akin to God. In such a state, external powers like God or people hold no sway over them, and nothing can harm or influence them.

સૌ ઈશ્કના બેદાદ દિલના દર્દને ધિક્કારતાં;
All scorn the anguish of a heart by love betrayed;Yet for a day, try to wear that pain as kohl in your eyes, unswayed.
Everyone despises the anguish of a heart betrayed by love. Yet, try for just one day to wear that very pain as kohl in your eyes.

The tears that fill our eyes in utter desolation, Not a single drop can be bought for a hundred thousand worlds.
The tears that fill our eyes in utter desolation are so invaluable that not even a single drop can be acquired by selling a hundred thousand worlds.
14
કિમ્મત અમારી પૂછશો, તો એક દિલનું બિન્દુડું;
If you ask our worth, 'tis a single heart's tiny drop;We are sold with joy, take us happily, whoever needs.
If you ask our worth, it is but a tiny drop of a heart. We are sold with joy; whoever needs us can take us happily.

છે તો હર્રાજી તોય મોંઘો ઈશ્કનો આ માલ છે;
Though it's an auction, this merchandise of love is truly dear;Let those whose lives are meant for tears, come forth to take it here.
Even though it is an auction, this merchandise of love is very expensive. Those whose lives are destined for tears are welcome to come and acquire it.

ખૂન નીચોવી અહીં છે જાપ જપવો ઈશ્કનો;
Here, wring out your blood to chant the rosary of love;If you sever your neck to make a garland of heads, then so be it.
Here, one must wring out their blood to chant the rosary of love. If you are willing to sever your neck and make a garland of heads, then so be it, for such is the demand of love.

એ મંત્ર જપતાં જાગશે ભૂતાવળો લાખો અહીં;
As this mantra is chanted, millions of specters will awaken here;If you don't fear them upon seeing them, then come, let us play.

ગુલામ થઈ રહેશું સદા પણ બાદશાહી મહાલશું;
Though we remain eternal slaves, we shall taste regal sway;For we are those who sleep, having made the master's heart our throne.
Even if we remain eternal slaves, we shall experience regal power, for we are the ones who sleep, having turned the master's heart into our throne.

હા! લાખરંગી ઈશ્કનું કો એકરંગી જામ છે;
Ah! Of love's myriad colors, there's a goblet of singular hue;We are the drinkers of such a cup, making us the most intoxicated of the intoxicated.

આવો, ભરી પીજો અને એ જીરવી લેજો નશો;
Come, drink your fill, and let that intoxication be absorbed;Or else, forever entrust the wines to the one who drinks.
Come, drink your fill and absorb that intoxication; otherwise, forever entrust the wines to the one who drinks.

ને મોતની મીઠી પથારીમાં ભર્યું યે એ જ છે;
Our mother gave us that when we first took birth,And in death's sweet bed, it's filled with the same on earth.
Our mother gave us something at birth, and the very same thing fills us in the sweet bed of death.

એ ઈશ્કની લાલી મહીં લાખો ખુદા ઘેલા બન્યા;
In that crimson glow of love, countless gods went mad; But among those millions, our madness is truly unique.
