Asad, my hands and feet swelled with joy,When she said, 'Just press my feet for a while.'

Laugh unfailingly, laugh certainly,Even in sorrow, laugh uninhibitedly.This wisdom of madness,I truly adore.

The coy display of teeth's playfulness is for laughter;The claim of gathering friends is a cause for laughter.

When the beloved claps her hands in laughter's joyous flight,Like a glow-worm, she would spread on the moon her brilliant light.

Fortunate the humble soul, Asad, who through content's embrace,Can make an ant's mere footprint Solomon's royal place.

Ah, the joy of spring's arrival, what delight!My passion for ghazal-reciting burns anew, so bright.

He Himself excuses every particle's wild, drunken state,Whose manifestation makes earth to sky brim with joyous elation.

My magic has brought joy to this place, Otherwise, what is my verse, what is my poetry?

Why shouldn't the world be joyful, Ghalib, The pious King has found his cure.

O Holy Prophet, you have been blessed by Allah with the promise that your desires shall be fulfilled; and we, your humble followers, have complete faith in Allah's assurance that you shall be happy with Allah's Bounty. We hope that the Gracious One will declare us successful in the test of earthly life, because we have correctly understood the Divine words: 'Intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted.'

Please stop, my heart, please stop, Just one simple thing, smiling with ease.

May you live for a thousand years,May each year have fifty thousand days.

The garden has so deeply cherished your presence,Each bud blooming is its embrace opening.

O Ghalib, wherever that flower its beauty does parade,The rosebud's bursting sound is the heart's laughter made.

If given unasked, the joy is indeed greater,Commendable is the beggar who's not accustomed to asking.

Speak words like this, losing the self's conceit; which cools others, and gives coolness to the self.

Both Guru and Govinda stand before me, whose feet shall I touch first? I sacrifice myself to the Guru, who showed me the path to Govinda.

Whenever the name enters the heart, the sins are destroyed. As if a spark of fire falls upon old grass.

When the true Guru is found, the self is understood, / Knowledge shines brightly, dispelling all illusion's shroud. / Breaking the pot of delusion, one remains uniquely free.

The garden flourishes to such an extent, seeing you,The flower itself reaches the corner of your turban.

To compare such a cheerful face with a lamp's glow, Is like the tearful countenance of the evening gathering.

Again, with such a splendor, spring has graced,That even sun and moon gaze, quite entranced.

At your thought, my soul quivers with delight,Like the wind's soft dance and the candle's fluttering light.

Her face is pure as snow, in what exquisite manner she is steeped in intoxication; Today, spring has bloomed upon that beautiful maiden, who has become tipsy from the wine.

A dark intoxication grips the dust-born from the spring cloud's sweep, The earth, with joy's surge, is an overflowing earthen cup held deep.

The flowers bring memories, filling baskets full, That gardener woman is very loving, I like her.

Asad, it's the drunken stumble, the fervor of the show, From wine's fiery glow, the friend's market warmly does glow.

To become kohl in shy eyes, there's pleasure in swaying.Let it be the subject of talk, there's pleasure in being discussed!
